Everything Portland Asks Us About Wallpaper

Pricing, prep, materials, timelines, and how we work. If your question is not here, call (971) 318-4447 — you will get a straight answer.

How much does wallpaper installation cost in Portland?

Most single accent walls in the Portland area fall between $450 and $900 installed, depending on wall size, condition, and material. Full rooms typically run $1,200 to $3,500. Specialty materials like grasscloth or murals price higher because they demand slower, more careful handling. Every job gets a fixed written quote after a free on-site visit — the price you sign is the price you pay.

Do you provide the wallpaper, or do I buy it myself?

Either works. Many clients order paper they love from brands like Rifle, Serena & Lily, Spoonflower, or trade showrooms, and we install it. We can also source contract-grade and designer papers for you at trade pricing. Before you order anything, we calculate the exact roll count at the estimate so you never over-buy or come up a roll short mid-wall.

How long does a typical installation take?

A single accent wall is usually done in half a day. A full room takes one to two days including prep. Whole-home or commercial projects are scheduled in phases and quoted with a firm timeline up front. Removal plus new installation on the same walls generally adds a day for the walls to dry properly after stripping and washing.

Do my walls need preparation before wallpaper goes up?

Almost always, yes — and it is included in our quote, never a surprise add-on. Portland homes range from 1910s plaster to new drywall, and each needs different prep: skim-coating, sanding, sealing stains, and priming with wallpaper-specific primer. Good prep is invisible in photos but it is the difference between paper that lasts fifteen years and paper that lifts at the seams in one winter.

Can you remove old wallpaper without damaging the wall?

Yes. We steam and strip in controlled sections, wash off all residual adhesive, then repair, sand, and prime. We regularly handle the hard cases — painted-over paper, multiple layers, 1970s foils, and paper fused to unprimed drywall. You get a wall that is genuinely ready for paint or new wallpaper, with any repairs itemized in the quote before we start.

Is wallpaper a good idea in Portland's damp climate?

Yes, if the material and prep match the room. Our wet winters make spec matter: for bathrooms and kitchens we use vinyl or coated non-wovens over moisture-resistant primer with sealed edges. For living spaces, breathable non-wovens handle normal Portland humidity without trouble. We will tell you honestly at the estimate if a paper you have chosen is wrong for the room.

Do you handle commercial projects and after-hours work?

Yes. Offices, hotels, restaurants, retail, and medical suites are a large share of our work. We install evenings and weekends so your business never closes, provide certificates of insurance to property managers, and phase larger buildings floor by floor. Commercial bids are returned within two business days of a site walk.

What is the difference between non-woven, vinyl, and traditional paper?

Non-woven is the modern standard: dimensionally stable, paste-the-wall, breathable, and strippable when you redecorate — our recommendation for most homes. Vinyl is the durability pick for bathrooms, kitchens, and commercial corridors because it is scrubbable and moisture-tolerant. Traditional paper gives period-correct results in older homes but expands when pasted and demands experienced hands. We help you choose at the free estimate.

Can you install grasscloth and other natural materials?

Yes — grasscloth, silk, cork, and other naturals are among our specialties. These materials have no pattern to hide behind, visible seams by design, and faces that stain permanently if adhesive touches them. They reward exact technique and punish shortcuts, which is why we always recommend professional installation for naturals.

Will the pattern match at the seams and corners?

Yes — millimetre pattern matching is the core of our craft. We plan the layout before the first strip goes up: centring motifs on the room's sightline, working out where seams land relative to windows and light, and double-cutting where the material calls for it. At the end we walk the room with you under raking light so you can inspect every seam.

Do you offer a warranty on your work?

Yes. Our workmanship guarantee covers seams, adhesion, and edges — if anything we installed lifts or opens under normal conditions, we come back and make it right at no charge. Material defects are covered by the manufacturer, and because we prep walls to manufacturer warranty requirements, those warranties stay valid too.

How far outside Portland do you travel?

We cover the whole Portland metro on both sides of the river — including Lake Oswego, West Linn, Beaverton, Happy Valley, Hillsboro, Tigard, Oregon City, and across into Camas and Vancouver, WA. If you are within about 45 minutes of downtown Portland, we serve you at no travel charge. Further out, ask — we often say yes.

How do I get a quote, and what does it cost?
